Pohang is home to some amazing places and sights to visit, including the Homigot Sunrise Square, Space Walk, and many more!

Pohang, also known locally as Pohang-si, is a city that resides in the province of North Gyeongsang, South Korea. This city has its main seaport in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region, and it gives the locals and tourists an excellent scenic view of the vast open sea. Pohang’s urban core is situated on the alluvium at the Hyeongsan River’s mouth. Buk-gu, or the northern ward, and Nam-gu, or the southern ward, are the two wards that make up the city.

A humid subtropical climate prevails in Pohang. At 1.8°C, January’s mean temperature is rather mild for the coldest month. August is the warmest month, with a mean temperature of 25.7°C. So, if you ever plan on making a trip to Pohang, it is better to avoid these months.

The city is not only home to one of the world’s largest steel companies but also has many lovely beaches, beautiful tourist spots, great restaurants that serve good food and much more. There are some amazing places to visit in the city that you can enjoy on your trip to Pohang, Korea.

Places to Visit in Pohang

Homigot Sunrise Square

Due to the city being near the coast, the city offers a good spot to get a glimpse of the beautiful sunrise on the east coast. Homigot Sunrise Square is one of the places you need to visit in Pohang to get a good view of the early sunrise. This is the place where you can see the sunrise at the earliest than the rest of Korea.

The hand sculpture in the sea is this area’s main draw in addition to the dawn. In December 1999, Sangsaeng’s Hand was built, a two-part bronze sculpture in the form of two hands. The right hand is in the sea, while the left hand is on shore. Sangsaeng, which means coexistence in Korean, was designed to convey the idea that all people live together and aid one another.

Yeongildae Beach

Yeongildae Beach is one of the well-known beaches in Korea. It also has the Yeongil Bridge, located at the beach’s end. You can walk up the bridge and get a better view of the vast open sea. The beach is located towards the east sea and is a famed local location. In and around the beach, you can see many art installations where you can get good photos of the arts or even yourself. This bridge features a lovely traditional Korean building with breathtaking scenery. If you want to view the gorgeous colors of the sky reaching beyond the horizon, go there around sunset.

Igari Anchor Observatory

The next place on your list must be the Igari Anchor Observatory, a lookout pier with a 10-meter height and 102-meter length that resembles an anchor and is situated in the village of Iga in the Cheonha Township. You can visit this place when you are in Pohang or when you are just passing by the city. You can either walk up the coast to reach this place or just take the car, which is time-saving and you can reach faster.

It is equally stunning with the illumination of the building’s railings at night. Please be aware that this location shuts every day at 6 p.m., barring the summer months of June through August.

Space Walk in Hwanho Park

The next place we will be visiting is the Space Walk in Hwanho Park. It is a psychedelic structure on which you can walk and take in the breathtaking view of the city in front of you. This actually resembles a rollercoaster from afar, but it is not; instead, it is a 25m art installation that you can actually walk on, which is an amazing experience. People can enter and walk about, but it is restricted to entering at night though you can watch it from far away due to it being illuminated.

Naeyeonsan County Park

The Naeyeonsan County Park is located in the Naeyeonsan mountain in Pohang city near the coast. There may be numerous attractions atop the mountain, such as the historic Bogyeongsa Temple, 12 waterfalls, and Cheonghagol Valley. You have everything right from the parking lot to hotels and restaurants along the way. This is one of the famed National Parks in Korea, and it’s worth the hike.

Pohang Canal

Pohang Canal, also known as the Pohang inner harbor, is one of the many scenic attractions in all of Pohang. It connects Yeongilman Bay’s seawater with the Hansangang River over a distance of around 1.3 kilometers. We advise taking the Pohang Cruise if you want a closer look at the Pohang Canal. There are two courses available for the cruise: Course A, which circles Songdo Beach and the seafront in Pohang, and Course B, which circles Jukdo Market and Dongbin Inner Harbor.

Once, this place was a barren land that was about to be transformed into a residential area, but later after thinking, this place was made as a hub for walkers and cyclists. Also, through the Pohang course, you can see most of the city and enjoy its scenic views.
