Yangnim-dong is well known for its cultural heritage but apart from the rich culture and monuments, the cafes of this district in Gwangju are popular for the caffeinated drinks they serve!

Gwangju, located in South Jeollanam, is the capital of the place and houses a small district called Yangnim-dong, which is well known for its cultural heritage. Being associated with the City of Democracy, this district has several aspects which depict old times. Yangnim-dong is also known as the Penguin village for the same. The history of this district is highly influenced by the American missionaries who took over the place and built several schools, libraries, hospitals, churches, most of which still stand tall in the place. Apart from the rich heritage and monuments, Yangnim-dong is also known for its cafes in recent times. Korea itself is well known for housing elegant, innovative coffee shops and the cafes in Yangnim-dong are known for the taste of the coffee they serve. It is said that they have mastered the basics of coffee making so well that you would not want to stop drinking that coffee just after one cup. Here is a list of some beautiful cafés, also called the hidden treasure of Gwangju.

Lois Cafe

Lois Cafe, named after a missionary Lois Neil who helped in building several churches and missionaries in ancient times, is a small yet elegant cafe located in the Yangnim-dong area of Gwangju. The minimalist place takes the form of a local hangout during any missionary programs. As soon as you enter the cafe, you will experience a whiff of freshly brewed coffee and roasted coffee beans. The aroma is not the only attraction, but the distinguished taste of their coffee too never fails to leave a mark. Their special Cortados and other cold brews have won the hearts of the coffee connoisseurs.

Cafe Illda

Cafe Illda Is one of those old-school places in the world of the modern blaze. The cafe houses a minimalist interior with ancient paintings thing on the wall. The café is isolated from the blaring noisy downtown Gwangju in terms of its peaceful environment. This place not only serves one of the best coffees but also makes you feel at home. So, if you are somebody who likes to enjoy your coffee at peace contemplating various ideas in the meantime, you will perfectly fit in this place like a right pea in the pod.
